William Leiper Exhibition

As part of the Festival of Architecture 2016, an exhibition on William Leiper to mark the centenary of his death is being held in the​

The gallery is housed in Leiper’s Sun Life Building, which won Silver Prize at the 1900 Paris International Exhibition.  Built in 1889, Leiper had his own offices upstairs in the building and included a purpose built gallery space on the ground floor. This was originally used by Alexander Reid, one of the most influential art dealers in Europe in the early 20th century.

William Leiper designed many impressive properties in Helensburgh including his own house, Terpersie, where he lived for forty years until his death. This authoritative celebration of the life and work of William Leiper (1839-1916) will focus on his career as a city architect.
