A newsletter was sent out today containing the following infomation:

Our March lecture would have been Christopher de Hamel on Medieval Illuminated Book of Hours.

Related to this 

  • SAL Public Lecture on Thomas Becket’s Library of Books.
  • BBC Newsnight Inside the mystery of medieval manuscripts

Both featuring Christopher.  He has also written many books on the subject, one in particular has beautiful illustrations.  "Meetings with Remarkable Manuscripts"

WHAT TO WATCH

  • PBS America Mark Twain’s Journey to Jerusalem: Dreamland
  • From EDFAS, "Revealing the Galloway Hoard" by Dr Martin Goldberg at National Museums Scotland. (This is as well as their usual March lecture).

BOOKS

  • Jules Verne’s Scotland by Ian Thompson. Verne visited Scotland in 1859!
  • First Contact: The Cult of Progress by David Olusoga   The first chapter on the capturing of the Benin Bronzes is very thought provoking!
  • Hamnet by Maggie O’Farrell.  A fictional account of Shakespeare’s son who died age 11 in 1596.

The committee meet again on 25 February and Area meet on 18 March.  (Both on Zoom!)  More news after that.
